David Cameron and Chris Huhne urge households to cut their energy bills

Most people have seen their energy prices rise by £100 since this summer, and now the government are stepping in. At the same time as making energy companies be much more transparent about their cheapest tariffs, they’re asking homeowners to do their bit to help themselves, by properly insulating their homes and taking advantage of things like discounts for paying by Direct Debit. All good stuff – as long as they continue to find ways to make renewable energy a viable alternative, rather than taking a sticking plaster approach of trying to make using fossil fuels more palatable.

Oil and gas may last just 17 years

17 years really isn’t a very long time at all. And OK, these are UK reserves – we’ll still  be able to import oil and gas from elsewhere. But at what cost?
