We think this is a great article. Not just because we have a vested interest in people ‘joining the gold rush’ – we obviously want more people to get involved – but because it rightly places emphasis on the quality of the installer you use to design and fit your solar panel system.
With the FIT scheme rewarding people as highly as it does right now, solar PV is as much an investment decision as an environmental one – and no-one can argue that it’s a sound investment. The problem with that is there are lot of people out there following the money and setting up solar PV installation businesses on the fly with little or no knowledge or training, let alone interest in the technology.
If you’re thinking of installing a solar PV system, always use an MCS- accredited installer – it’s your guarantee of a quality job – and beware of hard-sell techniques and too-good-to-be-true prices. There’s a world of difference between a top quality, well-made solar panel and a piece of plasticky rubbish, and unfortunately you won’t be able to tell until the installer is long gone and your system isn’t generating anything like as much free electricity as promised.
